18 Mar 2018 Circuit Hero-Two race: Safety car intervened twice as PetroCanada Star Cars Racing Hu Jia-Xin takes victory
At 15:10 on 18 March, 018 Pan Delta Super Racing Festival Spring Race Circuit Hero-Two race begins. From yesterday's qualifying, the drivers were very competitive with each other. Go Kart Racing #30 Wang Yuan is on pole position with a 1:50.143, 13 Racing-Gaoge Racing #15 Shi Wu-Zhen is second. On the second row are #78 Zhong Yong-Qiang and PetroCanada Star Cars Racing's #36 Hu Jia-Xin.
Before the formation lap, #3 Gang Yi was found to be leaking oil and his car is retired. The race begins and on lap 1, 13 Racing-Gaoge Racing #15 Shi Wu-Zhen clashed with Go Kart Racing #30 Wang Yuan at T1, resulting in damage fro Wang Yuan's race car and he parks his car on the side of the track. Near the end of lap 1, #87 Li De-Rong had an accident on the straight. The two incidents result in the safety car being deployed. The order is now #78 Zhong Yong-Qiang, PetroCanada Star Cars Racing #36 Hu Jia-Xin and #16 Gary Sham.
The safety car leaves the track at the end of lap 4. On lap 7, leader #78 Zhong Yong-Qiang suffered a mechnaical failure and stopped on the side of the track. PetroCanada Star Cars Racing #36 Hu Jia-Xin thus takes the lead. #68 Yang Xie and #16 Gary Sham were second and third. Winson Racing #25 Yang Zhuo-Lun unfortunately ran off into the gravel trap at T11, meaning the safety car was back on again. The gaps among cars were once again compressed and uncertainty is back.
With two laps to go, the safety car left for the pit lane. PetroCanada Star Cars Racing #36 Hu Jia-Xin was still in the lead, #8 Ning Yi-Hua and #68 Yang Xie were fighting over second place.
In the end, PetroCanada Star Cars Racing #36 Hu Jia-Xin kept his cool and crossed the line in first place. #68 Yang Xie was second while #8 Ning Yi-Hua took third place. Hu Jia-Xin said, "In the race the car had a few problems, my original target was a podium place but I ended up winning. I am very happy this was unexpected!"
Second overall and A2 class winner Yang Xie said,"It is a pity, I was hoping to challenge Hu, but the safety car was deployed twice and there was not enough time. I hope I can attack for an overall win in the next race."
Winson Racing #44 Chen Jia-Ping took third place in A2 class. He said he was very satisfied with his own performance. In the summer race and autumn race he will continue to participate.
