17 Jun 2018 Adderly Fong loses in supercars battle | Circuit Hero-One Race 4
At 11:10 a.m. on 17 June, Circuit Hero-One Race 4 officially begins. The top 3 are Zun Motorsport Crew’s #38 Adderly Fong, as a former F1 test driver, he performed brilliantly yesterday. Jiayan Racing’s #69 Julio Acosta and Shaanxi Tianshi Racing’s #37 Wiser Massimiliano are second and third on the grid.
After the formation lap the race officially begins. The race is only 10 laps today rather than 15 laps like yesterday. The supercars will have to charge throughout the race. At the start, #38 Adderly Fong makes a slow start and is overtaken by both #37 Wiser Massimiliano and #69 Julio Acosta. Adderly Fong manages a 1:35.693 fastest lap on lap 1 but he is still only third. The top trio are less than a second apart. On lap 2, #37 Wiser Massimiliano takes the fastest lap record to 1:33.575. On lap 3, #58 Shaun Thong misses his braking point and goes off, going down the order from 4th to 6th. Almost at the same time #23 makes a similar mistake.
At half distance, everyone in the top three are doing 1:33s laps. They are busy looking after their own positions. On the last two laps, third placed #38 Adderly Fong closes in on #69 Julio Acosta, trying to apply some pressure. At the last moment he is still trying to pass, but #69 Julio Acosta defends well and keeps his second place.
In the end, Shaanxi Tianshi Racing #37 Wiser Massimiliano wins the race, second place goes to #69 Julio Acosta, third place is Zun Motorsport Crew #38 Adderly Fong. Class D winner is Jiayan Racing’s #96 Juuso Puhakka. B2 class winner is #20 Filipe Souza and Class E is won by #10 Zhang Sui-Long, today’s class win somewhat compensates the crash he suffered yesterday.
After the race, #37 Wiser Massimiliano said, “I made a good start, but everyone are very good and I had to be careful in every corner. Fortunately I was able to perform steadily and win the race.” #38 Adderly Fong of Zun Motorsport Crew said, “Although I started from pole position, at the start the first and second gears did not connect well. Hopefully I can get a better result next time.”
After the race, the race organizers announced that #36 Billy Lo is penalized 35 seconds for a jump start. He finishes in 14th place overall and 4th in class B2 in the end, just missing out on a podium.
