Although Circuit Hero-Three is the entry level race series, its professionalism is as good as any other and the drivers have good experience. The race is very challenging and spectacular for the fans. At 10:00 a.m. on 17 June, ZIC is already buzzing with spectators arriving for the race. There are 18 cars fighting for victory in the 18 laps Circuit Hero-Three race.
A point worth mentioning is that after the adjustment in the regulations last season, many new teams have entered the series, among them are web celebrities team as well as Great Drive-CE Racing. In the main race today, two drivers are required per car. The timing for driver change is crucial for any team with winning ambitions. According to the qualifying results from yesterday, #71 Zhuang Zhi-Jun/Tan Yun will start from pole position. #36 Lei Jun-Bin/Fan Sheng-Sheng will start from second position. Third on the grid is #22 Wu Wen-Fa/You Yi-Hao.
On lap 1, #16 and #79 clash at T4, causing #79’s left rear tyre and wheel to be damaged. #79 has no choice but to return to the pits for repairs.
#71 posts a 2:06.889 fastest lap, #22 is in second position and #7 is also up to third place. On lap 2, #17 posts a new fastest lap of 2:02.081 as he shadows the third placed car, looking for an opportunity to pass. #17 finally makes it pass on lap 4. After that, #70 and #7 begins the driver changes. By lap 7 over half the competing cars have completed their driver changes. Race leader #17 and second placed #71 are on different strategies. The gap between them shrinks from 10 seconds to about 5 seconds. #36 follows them in third place. The leading trio are running similar 2:02 lap times.
In the end, the 18 lap race is over, #71 Zhuang Zhi-Jun/Tan Yun crosses the line in first place, #17 Yan Yu-Peng/Zeng Ying-Zhuo are second and first in A1 class. Third place goes to #22 Wu Wen-Fa/You Yi-Hao. The overall top three are also the winners of the “Star of Pirelli” prizes.
After the race, #71 Zhuang Zhi-Jun/Tan Yun said, “Yesterday we got pole position in qualifying, which is a good advantage for today’s race. Fortunately I have been able to run to the best of my ability. I was able to go fast as well as steady.” Second placed #17 Yan Yu-Peng/Zeng Ying-Zhuo said, “We knew the car behind was very close, fortunately yesterday we saw plenty of Zhuang Zhi-Jun/Tan Yun race videos and learned a lot of defensive tactics. That gave us a lot of help today. We are very happy we performed steadily.”
