08 Oct 2020 Fierce competition, Chen Yuan-Peng, Li Zong take ZIC Motorbike Race Class B and Class A wins respectively
6-7 October, Zhuhai Motorsports Association Club Race Round 2 is held at Zhuhai International Circuit. ZIC Motorbike Race has two main race on the 7th. In the end, Titanic Kawasaki Racing #970 Chen Peng-Yuan takes the overall victory in class B; while Monster Energy Yamaha China #777 Li Zong wins overall in class A.
ZIC Motorbike Race Class B
In the qualifying session in the morning, old and new riders gather for this session. Among the riders are 3 young rookies. At 12 pm, Class B qualifying begins. The session is 20 minutes long. In the end, Titanic Kawasaki Racing #970 Chen Peng-Yuan sets the fastest lap of the race at 1:53.769. Monster Energy Yamaha China #9 Yin Zheng suffered a mechanical problem and only joined the session with 6 minutes remaining, he managed a time of 2:01.195 and is 11th overall. In the class A qualifying session, Monster Energy Yamaha China #777 Li Zhong takes pole position with a 1:52.969. #85 Wang Yi-Bo has an excellent performance and is first in class, third overall.
At 15:23, ZIC Motorbike Class B main race officially begins its 10 laps race. 19 riders are taking part. At the start, #970 Chen Peng-Yuan takes the lead at T3 after initially losing out. #9 Yin Zheng also moves up two places to be 1st in class and 8th overall.
After 3 laps, the leading duo are #970 Chen Peng-Yuan and #51 Li Qi-Shen are running together, the gap between them is just 0.227 second. By now #9 Yin Zheng speeds around in 1:59.954 and moves up another place to be 7th. On lap 5, 18th place starter #11 Chen Ling makes multiple overtaking moves to get herself up to third place. #9 Yin Zheng and #826 Dong Lei fight each other over a number of corners, with #9 Yin Zheng maintaining his advantage.
On the last lap, the top 2 are still running tightly together, #51 Li Qi-Shen still has not found a way through. The order does not see any changes. The top 3 are Titanic Kawasaki Racing #970 Chen Peng-Yuan, Shanghai Haohui 51RT Racing #51 Li Qi-Shen and his teammate #11 Chen Ling. Monster Energy Yamaha China #9 Yin Zheng finishes 7th overall and takes the win in B5 class.
In the various classes, B1 class top 3 are Sugui Racing #27 Zhang Yao and teammate #826 Dong Lei, FS.D Racing #151 Hu Shu-San; B2 class top 3 are CR-Max Racing Team #14 Wang Yan, Shanghai Haohui 51RT Racing #36 Dong Cheng Hao and teammate #111 Chen Yao-Cheng; B3 class top 3 are Titanic Kawasaki Racing #970 Chen Peng-Yuan, Shanghai Haohui 51RT Racing #51 Li Qi-Shen and teammate #11 Chen Ling; B5 class top 3 are Monster Energy Yamaha China #9 Yin Zheng, Saibo Chuangke Racing #666 Yang Ze, Shi Zhao Racing #54 Mu Nan.
After the race, ZIC Motorbike Race Class B main race overall winner #970 Chen Peng-Yuan said, “As the race goes on, I felt there was quite a lot of pressure because the gap to the rider behind me was always small. I also made a few small mistakes so winning this race was not easy. I am very happy. This year is my first time racing in the ZIC Motorbike Race and it felt like returning home. For next year’s Speed Hero I have big expectations.”
B5 class winner #9 Yin Zheng said, “This is the first time I raced on the track of Zhuhai International Circuit, also the first time I raced in ZIC Motorbike Race, it was very exciting and I am very happy. In the qualifying session we had a few problems, thankfully my team fixed them for me. In the main race I managed to adjust my form and perform steadily, winning the class. I am very happy. If there is an opportunity to return in the future I will definitely come back, because motorcycle racing is a sport I like very much.”
ZIC Motorbike Race Class A
At 16:13 in the afternoon, ZIC Motorbike Race Class A is held as the final race of the day. The race is 10 laps long and 27 riders are taking part. At the start, all motorcycles make it through turn 1, HFK Racing #18 Hu Tong-Ming gets up to first place, Monster Energy Yamaha China #85 Wang Yi-Bo is momentarily down to 6th place. Soon after Monster Energy Yamaha China #777 Li Zong overtakes and is back in the overall lead.
On lap 2, #85 Wang Yi-Bo makes an overtaking move at T4 and moves up to 5th. He also closes up on #18 Hu Tong-Ming at T9 and begins fighting for the class lead. Finally, at T13 and on the main straight, he makes the move and gets up to 2nd place overall.
On lap 4, #777 Li Zong and #85 Wang Yi-Bo begin to pull away from the field. Behind them the other riders are fighting for position. #6 Zhang lang runs off into the gravel at T9 and sadly drops out of the running for a podium place. At half distance, #777 Li Zong sets the fastest lap of the race 1:52.514, his advantage continues to increase, while his teammate #85 Wang Yi-Bo maintains second place and is 2.6 seconds ahead of the third placed rider.
On lap 7, #85 Wang Yi-Bo is slowed by the backmarkers. His gap with #18 Hu Tong-Ming is narrowed. The two riders take turns to lead the class, with #85 Wang Yi-Bo maintaining a small lead. With 2 laps to go, the two riders are still in battle and exchanging places. On the main straight Wang Yi-Bo counter attacks and is back in front.
On the last lap, Wang Yi-Bo leads #18 Hu Tong-Ming by a mere 0.2 second. The two riders arrive at T7, Hu Tong-Ming tries to get on the inside line, but he falls down and loses the motorcycle, which hits Wang Yi-Bo who was turning into the corner. Wang Yi-Bo also falls down. While Hu Tong-Ming is able to get back on his motorcycle and gets going again, Wang Yi-Bo is unable to restart his bike and has to sadly retire from the race. But this is part of motorcycle racing. Nobody can predict the result before the end of the race. In the end #777 Li Zong takes the overall victory, #27 Wang Jing-Bin and #37 Jiang Jiang finish second and third respectively.

After the race ZIC Motorbike Race Class A overall winner #777 Li Zong said, “I made a mistake at the start, but soon I got back on my rhythm, and took the lead back. At the same time I am sorry for my teammate Wang Yi-Bo because he had an accident near the end. But it is ok, next time he can get a better result. My other teammate Yin Zheng also performed well. He performed steadily, winning his class first time out, that is excellent.”
