23 Jul 2018 Greater Bay Area Lotus Cup ready to go
On 21 July, Automobile General Association Macao-China (ACMC), Hong Kong Automobile Association (HKAA) and Zhuhai Motorsports Association jointly launched the Greater Bay Area Lotus Cup race series, in order to promote the creation of “Guangdong Hong Kong Macau Greater Bay Area Development Plan”. The race series accepts drivers from mainland China, Hong Kong China and Macau China to enter. Greater Bay Area Lotus Cup – Zhuhai Round will take place during the Pan Delta Super Racing Festival in September. The second race will take place in the Macau Grand Prix in November. In the future it will be promoted as a part of the Macau Grand Prix. All the race vehicles will be provided by Richburg Hong Kong. Official tyres will be supplied by GT Tires. Already more than 10 drivers have submitted their entries and entry application is still open.
After the launch ceremony of the Greater Bay Area Lotus Cup, AAMC, HKAA and Zhuhai Motorsports Association held a race co-ordination meeting to facilitate the race operation and vision for the race’s future. A common consensus was reached. All three parties will send race officials and delegates for the joint race operation and execution.
In 2018 there will be two Greater Bay Area Lotus Cup races. These are warm up races for a more mature race series in 2019. There will be more races in China next year with the final being held again during the Macau Grand Prix.
In the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau development, motorsports hope to attract more racing circuits and more motorsport related businesses to support the race series and promote motorsport culture, at the same time promote road safety. In the future there is a possibility to organize Greater Bay Area New Energy Vehicle races.
