28 May 2022 Kenny Chung takes double pole position despite frequent red flags – Circuit Hero Super Mass Production Class
On 28-29 May, Zhuhai International Circuit welcomes the long awaited ZMA Club Race. Circuit Hero race series are back with a new look. For this club race, many old faces have returned while many newcomers have also joined in. On 28 May, Circuit Hero-Super Mass Production class qualifying session takes place. After two highly competitive 20 minute sessions, K2C Motorsports #7 Kenny Chung takes the pole positions for both races tomorrow.
Qualifying
At 13:00 on a sunny day with fine track conditions, Circuit Hero-Super Mass Production class (A1/A2/A3 classes) first qualifying session begins. After a few warm up laps, K2C Motorsports #7 Kenny Chung sets a 1:49.427 to go quickest of all. Foshan Xiongji Racing #38 Chen Bing-Xiong follows in second place, 0.460 second behind. Half way through the session, Xinghuo Spark Racing #37 Zhou Yun-Jie sets a 1:49.363 to go top of the timing screen. In the final minute Kenny Chung performs a 1:48.920 to regain his position. In the end Kenny Chung takes the pole position for this session.
Circuit Hero-Super Mass Production Class (A5/A6/A7 classes) first qualifying session are next on track. After 5 minutes, #6 stops at the grass at T10. The race officials show the yellow flag. The session resumes, Falcon Racing Driving Academy #2 Xiao Zhun-Ning sets a 2:00.320 to take provisional pole position. At 8 minutes, #2 stops on the grass at T4 and the race officials stops the session. As the session resumes, Guangzhou Jinxun BoomGear Racing #78 Ryan Kuang manages a 2:00.036 to go top. In the last 2 minutes, Xinghuo Spark Racing #82 Liang Jian-Xing sets a fastest lap of 1:59.508 to take pole position for this session.
Combining the results of the two sessions, K2C Motorsports #7 Kenny Chung will start from the pole position for tomorrow’s race one. Foshan Xiongji Racing #38 Chen Bing-Xiong and Xinghuo Spark Racing #37 Zhou Yun-Jie will start from second and third places respectively.
At 16:20, Circuit Hero-Super Mass Production class (A1/A2/A3 classes) second qualifying session begins. After 3 minutes, #38 stops on the grass at T10 and the race officials stops the session with a red flag. 5 minutes later the session resumes. Kenny Chung sets a 1:49.392 to go top. Half way through the session, #87 goes off at T11 gravel trap. The race officials stops the session again. In the end K2C Motorsports #7 Kenny Chung secures the pole position of this session.
Soon after, Circuit Hero-Super Mass Production (A5/A6/A7 classes) second qualifying session begins. Go Racing #71 Chen Long-Wei sets a 2:00.355 second fastest lap to go to of the timing screens. NewFaster Go Racing #72 Chai Jia-Ming, Liqui Moly Ghiasports Racing #36 Wang Jun are second and third respectively. At 7 minutes, #2 goes into the gravel trap at T10. The race officials show the red flag to stop the session. When the session resumes, BM-Tech Racing #22 Yang Si-Xing manages a fast lap to climb up to second place. Not long later #28 stops at T12 and causes another red flag. As the session draws to a close in the final minute, Chai Jia-Ming records a 1:59.987 fastest lap to take the pole position for the session.
Combining the results from the two session, K2C Motorsports #7 Kenny Chung once again takes the pole position for race two. Xinghuo Spark Racing #37 Zhou Yun-Jie and Gaoge Racing #77 Lin Xue-Jun are second and third respectively.
