18 Sep 2016 Circuit Hero-Three Race: Gary Sham wins with ease

In the morning of 18 September 2016, with the autumn sun shining bright, the track temperature begins to rise. There are already groups of fans in the grandstand, the pit lane is busy with cars getting ready. The 21 cars entered for the race are all lined up, waiting for the green light at pit exit. Race queens and photographers are snapping away. Engines are ready to roar. All the activities signal the beginning of another eventful day at the Pan Delta Super Racing Festival.

After yesterday’s qualifying session, Gary Sham and Lou Wei-Qi will start on the front row. Li De-Rong and He Wei-Bin are on row two. Behind them are Liu Qi and Deng Qi-Yan. Gary Sham’s 1:56.456 pole time shocks the field as it proves the quality of the race has gone up once again.

At 10:25 the red lights go off, Gary Sham takes off, pushing Luo Wei-Qi to the side. Li De-Rong takes the opportunity to claim the best line and a fight for the lead at T1 ensues. Li De-Rong leads lap 1 with Gary Sham in pursuit. Soon Gary Sham takes the lead at T2 on lap 2 and then pulls away. He would stay in the lead until the chequered flag.

From lap two onwards, the stream of cars behind the leaders begin to spread out, drivers are adjusting in order to fight for places again. Second place Li De-Rong cannot relax as Luo Wei-Qi is hot on his heels and He Wei-Bin is not far behind them. Further back He Wei-Hang is defending his position from Chen Bin. TRT racing’s Wu Hao-Lin avoids a spinning car with a great save. Huang Zhi-Cong, who starts from the back, fights his way through the field as Lin Zhe battles other competitors. There is action all over the track and the spectators cannot rest their eyes.

As the two Peugeot RCZs of Gary Sham and Luo Wei-Qi enters lap 10, Huang Zhi-Cong is up to fourth. The fast starting Li De-Rong has lost third place. In the end Gary Sham wins the race with Luo Wei-Qi finishing second. Li Ye-Long finishes third overall. Gary Sham said after the race, “I have raced at ZIC for many years, the team has setup the car very well, allowing me to do quick laps. This race was very smooth.”

1st runner’s up Luo Wei-Qi said, “My race car is built following Macau race regulations. The horsepower is much less against my rivals. I could only make up time by late braking.”

Circuit Hero-Three is hugely popular with drivers, many of them take great pleasure in participating. He Wei-Hang said, “The difference in performance among the competitors is very small, it is very challenging.“ Li De-Rong shares his opinion, “My race car is not setup to its best performance. I will return next year!”
