After an exciting battle on 30th October, the 2010 China Superbike Championship (CSBK) 150cc Open class riders’ title and SS600cc’s teams’ and riders’ titles have all been decided. Tianyu DTU Racing and Yes! Yamaha Tianjian Racing are the big winners, while in the GP125cc class, the championship won’t be decided until after the final round.

Although the championship battle in two classes have been settled.  The races were no less exciting in the last races of the season. In 150cc Open class, the newly entered Honda Phantom 150 bikes’ performances will be the focus of the media and spectators’ attention. As a product that Honda is marketing heavily in the Chinese market, Phantom 150’s performances on track will be closely monitored. For the teams’ title, S&S Racing and Tianyu DTU Racing will have to battle hard for victory. In SS600cc class, Huang Shi-Zhao has won 6 races out of 7 and everyone will be keen to find out if Xiao Jin, as a younger generation representative, will be able to beat his master to win his first race. In addition, Huang Zhi-Yu and Zhang Wei-An are still fighting over third place in the championship.

150CC Open class: Tianyu DTU Racing takes double crowns

The final race of the season kicks off at 12:45pm on 31 October. As the lights went out, as in the first race, S&S Racing’s Yu Yang used his good start to power himself into the lead ahead of the Tianyu DTU riders. But Qiu Ming-Xian and Qiu Shi-Yi would not give up easily, soon they latched onto Yu Yang’s back and began to attack. They are determined to add the teams’ crown to the riders’ title.

Soon, Tianyu DTU’s riders used their bikes’ superior performance to pass Yu Yang and it became a five way battle among three S&S riders and 2 Tianyu DTU riders. If they stay in this order, then Tianyu DTU will be 2010 CSBK 150cc Open class champion.

But just as the Tianyu DTU riders were enjoying their rides up in front, Qiu Ming-Xian’s bike suddenly suffered a mechanical failure, forcing him to retire. Tianyu DTU is left with only Qiu Shi-Yi. Sadly S&S also has nothing to celebrate, as Wuyang Honda’s Honda Phantom 150 bike, rode by Chen Yuan-Hang of 667R Racing, has made his way pass and moved into second place.

S&S Racing were not taking it lying down. Zhai Zi-Yang re-passed Chen Yuan-Hang on lap 5, only for him to regain his position a lap later.

In the end, Qiu Shi-Yi crossed the line in first place, Zhai Zi-Yang and Chen Yuan-Hang finished second and third. But according to the race organizers, Chen Yuan-Hang and Chen Peng-Yuan’s results were disqualified in post-race scrutineering. Yu Yang therefore took over third place in this race.

SS600cc class: Yamaha dominates top 3

SS600cc were next on track. At the start of the race it straightway turns into a Yamaha affair. Huang Shi-Zhao and Xiao Jin begins to fight over the lead, while “Big Head Fish” Huang Zhi-Yu charged into third with Zhou Hao-Yun and Zhang Wei-An in 4th and 5th places.

After 2 laps, master Huang Shi-Zhao made his move on Xiao Jin, passing him at turn 1, then he pulls away with some ease. At the same time, everyone at the circuit focused on the battle between Huang Zhi-Yu and Zhou Hao-Yun over third place. On lap 4, Zhou Hao-Yun took turn 3 beautifully and passed Huang Zhi-Yu around the outside for third place. But Huang Zhi-Yu kept up with him, the two overtook each other numerous times and got the spectators cheering them on.

In the second half of the race, just as Zhou Hao-Yun and Huang Zhi-Yu were fighting hard, Zhou’s bike suddenly had a problem that forced him off the circuit temporarily. In the end, Huang Shi-Zhao comfortably wins his 7 race of the season. Xiao Jin and Huang Zhi-Yu took second and third. Zhang Wei-An finished in fourth. Since Huang Zhi-Yu did not score 8 points more than Zhang Wei-An, therefore Yes! Yamaha Tianjian Racing successfully finished 1-2-3 in the riders’ standings.

GP125cc: 0.06 second is the difference

GP125cc is the last to appear on track. This is also the only class where the championship title is still to be decided. After race 1, Zhang Hai-Long leads the points standings with a 7 point lead over He Zi-Xian. But this is a small gap. At the start, Kinlon Shenli Racing’s veteran racer He Zi-Xian storms into the lead, XGJ Racing’s Zeng Jian-Hang, Maxinger Racing’s Hu Zhao-Neng and Lingken Racing’s Zhang Hai-Long follow closely. The gap among them is insignificant and it is a very hard race to call.

In order to put pressure on He Zi-Xian, Zhang Hai-Long quickly moved ahead of Zeng Jian-Hang for second place and started to catch He Zi-Xian.

Zhang Hai-Long just has to finish second in this race to be crowned GP125cc class A champion. With no chance of defending his title, Zeng Jian-Hang was not about to let his only chance for glory slip away. He got involved in He Zi-Xian and Zhang Hai-Long’s battle and created a three way battle for victory.
Although He Zi-Xian performed very well and led half of the race, in the last two corners Zeng Jian-Hang managed to pass him and crossed the line to take the win. He Zi-Xian therefore sadly, lost the title. Zhang Hai-Long, title holder of 2008, thus becomes a two-time GP125cc class A champion. In class B, the race went to Yongkee Majiri Racing’s Mao Rui-Bin, while the overall championship is won by XGJ Racing’s Ro Jian-Qing.
