02 Aug 2007 Zhuhai wins place on A1GP calendar

Zhuhai International Circuit in China will host an A1GP round for the first time this season, it has been announced.

In the official 2007/08 A1GP World Cup of Motorsport calendar released on 1st August 2007, it was confirmed that the fifth round of the season will take place at the Chinese facility.

It is the only new track currently planned for this season’s schedule, and is likely to provide a pivotal test for teams and drivers, with very few having any experience of the circuit.

A1GP will become the fastest series ever to race at the venue when it visits on 14-16 December 2007.

The 4.3km (2.7-mile) circuit opened in 1996, when it became the country’s first permanent motor racing facility.

The circuit itself features lots of potential for overtaking with two straights of 900 and 500m. The pit straight is 14 metres wide at its widest, which should allow plenty of room for wheel-to-wheel A1GP action.

Zhuhai is situated on the south coast of the country, which borders the special administrative region of Macau, a short ferry ride from Hong Kong.

It will also be the final round before A1GP’s traditional winter break, which this season will last for five weeks. (End)
