17 Sep 2016 No favourites for overall champion-Circuit Hero - Two Qualifying
As the sun begins to set, Zhuhai International Circuit welcomes the best weather of the day, with warm sunshine and a light breeze. At 3:45 p.m. on 17 September, the Circuit Hero-Two race cars are welcomed on track for their final qualifying battle of the year. Due to the numerous entries, the 38 cars are divided into two groups and each group will have 20 minutes to set a time in their qualifying session, the division give the drivers more track space to set their best times.
First on track are the A1/A2 classes. Not all drivers need the full 20 minutes, actually most drivers just complete 4 laps before returning to the pits to make adjustments to their cars. The drivers in these classes are already very familiar with the race procedure and know full well what to do.
After the first qualifying group session is over, A2 class occupies the top 3 positions. The pole position goes to Chen Bing-Xiong in his BRZ with a fastest time of 1:47.406. Second is Kuang Can-Wei who managed 1:47.311. Ding Shan is third with a 1:47.406. Chen Bing-Xiong leads the title chase with 15 points, while Kuang Can-Wei has 8. If Kuang wants to win the title, then he will have to hope that Chen does not finish the race and he himself finish in second place or better. This is a group that is not unknown to accidents, so Kuang Can-Wei’s chances are still open.
A1 class’ lap times are significantly slower than A2. The top 3 are Che Liang, Huang Dong-Xiong and Liu Peng; their lap times are 1:48.553, 1:52.172, and 1:52.184 respectively. Liu Peng currently leads the table by 8 points from Che Liang. Although Che Liang seems to have on track advantage, all Liu Peng has to do is finish no lower than third place to claim the title.
The second group of qualifying consists of A3A5A6 classes. This group’s drivers do not make it to the front rows. In the end, Chen Bing-Xiong, Kuang Can-Wei, Ding Shan and Xiao Jia-Wei will start tomorrow’s race on the front two rows.
Final race of the year will see some big battles. Can Chen Bing-Xiong and Liu Peng claim the title winner trophy? 18 September, see you at Pan Delta.
