17 Sep 2016 Ouyang Fu takes CL1 title with race to spare - ZIC Superbike Race 600cc
On Saturday 17 Sep 2016, ZIC Superbike Race 600cc held its first race at 12:50. After 8 laps of racing, Kawasaki ZX6R rider Ouyang Fu takes the race victory. At the same time he also takes the CL1 class title with one race to spare, as he took wins in the previous rounds as well. In CL2, Yuan Ji-Bo wins the class and has amassed 130 points. His lead over second place is exactly 25 points, that means he just needs to finish in the points in the final race to claim the CL2 title.
In the penultimate race, the fight for the title is even more fierce. With the autumn sun shining brightly, 26 superbikes roars off the grid with a huge crowd cheering them on. As the superbikes go through T4, a gap develops between the leading bikes and the rest. Ouyang Fu and Huang Zhi-Yu finish the first lap half a second apart, but soon, Ouyang Fu begins to make use of the clear track in front of him and pulls out a gap.
In the middle of lap 2, James Newton passes Huang Zhi-Yu for second place and begins to speed up. The pack behind him are running close together, sometimes overtaking each other. Yuan Ji-Bo, who started on the last row, begins to make his way to the front and is now running fourth. On lap 5 James Newton manages a 1:40 lap but is still not within range of leader Ouyang Fu.
With Ouyang Fu leading and finally crossing the finish line, the 8 laps race is soon over. In his bid to close the gap, James Newton runs off the circuit but is able to re-join. Yuan Ji-Bo also tries very hard till the end as he overtook Huang Zhi-Yu.
After the race, series champion Ouyang Fu claims this is the first time he has entered a full season of racing and is really happy to be the champion. Although he ran in the lead and did not feel much pressure, he did not allow himself to make any mistakes. Fortunately he was able to perform steadily. 1st runner’s up Ma Sai said he is satisfied with his own performance but still needs to work harder.
In CL2 class, Yuan Ji-Bo made a bad start and dropped to last but recovered to win. Before the race he had planned to aim for second while fighting for the win. Since he is 10 points behind the points leader, he has to keep fighting. Huang Zhi-Yu finished second today, due to the weather and other reasons he found he could not focus fully today and was unable to do good laps. “Yuan Ji-Bo performed wonderfully, I am very happy to finish second today.” 2nd runner’s up is Jiang Jiang, in his second year at Shi Zhao Motorsport. “This trophy is the result and testimony to my many years’ of hard work at Shi Zhao Motorsport.”
