05 Jul 2016 Circuit Hero One Qualifying: SLS demonstrates champion s stength
At 10:15 on 18 June 2016, the half an hour Circuit Hero One qualifying session is held at Zhuhai International Circuit. 30 race cars are divided into 6 classes and they will have two races. The glamourous collection of one Mercedes SLS AMG GT3, three Porsches, three Audi R8s and one Ferrari 458, indicates that the Circuit Hero One GT class is getting stronger and stronger. Maybe in the not too distant future we will see the establishment of Circuit Hero GT.
Although weather forecasts said Zhuhai will be cloudy, the actual scene is sunny and very bright with few clouds. The temperature is very high. But things could change quickly due to ZIC being located in the the sub-tropical weather region.
The pit lane exit opens and all the race cars get on the track as quickly as they can. For the drivers they only get one race every three months, so they all want more track time. Although there are many cars on track, they all give enough space to each other, so that everyone can achieve a good lap time.
Guo Guo-Xin said he was still setting the car up yesterday. Today he will meet the challenge from old friend John Shen and his Porsche 997 GT3. In qualifying it seems Guo Guo-Xin has his car setup beautifully. His time of 1:39.832 allows him to take pole position again. In GT class, Huang Xi-Zhan is the leader with 1:41. John Shen s first lap is 1:42. But he was affected by the full course red flag due to an accident at turn 4.
A few minutes later, the accident scene is cleared and the qualifying session resumes. John Shen tries to make a quick lap time and in two laps he manages a 1:40. In the end, Guo Guo-Xin takes pole position with 1:39.832. John Shen is second with 1:40.454. Huang Xi-Zhan is third with 1:41.329 and leads GT class.
In the race in the afternoon, the drivers will face 15 laps in the hot Zhuhai sun. It is anyone s guess who will win.
