17 Sep 2017 Lots of incidents as Baldy emerges victorious Circuit Hero-Three Main Race
The 2017 Pan Delta Super Racing Festival Autumn Race Circuit Hero-Three Main Race is held at 09:20 on 17 September. On pole position is #88 Lin Wei-Hong/Jerome Badaraco. #6 Huang Zhi-Cong/Chen Jian-Wei are second on the grid, while #68 Yang Shuo/Xie Jin-Xian are third. #70 has been penalized after qualifying and have to start from the last place on the grid.
Pole starter #88 and #68 hit each at T2 right after the start and both have to retire from the race. The race organizers send out the safety car to lead the field. #99 takes this opportunity to go into the pit lane for a driver change. The order now is #6, #11 and #10.
On lap 3, the safety car still leads, more cars follow into the pit lane for driver changes. On lap 4, the safety car returns to the pit lane and the race resumes. #6 leads with #8, #11 and #70 following.
Soon we are on lap 9 and #70 has used its lap time advantage to the maximum and now leads the field. In A1 class #6 runs in second place, while A2 class is lead by #81, which is running 5th overall.
On lap 10, leader #70 pits and change driver. #6 unfortunately has a puncture and its right front tyre comes off the rim. But the driver preseveres and takes the car back into the pit lane. The crew makes a tyre change and the car resumes the race.
The numerous incidents mean the race order change frequently. #33 now leads with #71 close behind, looking for an opportunity to pass. #15 is five seconds further back in third place. The top 4 are all A2 class racers. Fifth on track is #70 and he just manages a fastest lap of 1:57.658, but he is more than 20 seconds behind the race leader.
On the last lap, #33 and #71 are fighting neck and neck for the overall win. The two cars almost go into the last corner side by side. #33 makes it out of the corner ahead and beats #71 to the finish line. What a race!
He Wei-Hang (Baldy), in the race winning #33 said after the race, "The car suffers from understeer at the conrers and I was pushed by the others really hard. Of course I did not give up. I am very tired but very happy with the result."
A5 class winner #70 Hu Qi-Ming/Tan Yun said they are very happy with the drivers and car performance after starting from the last place on the grid and finishing as class winners. They hope to achieve better results in next year's Pan Delta.
