27 Jun 2015 Liu Qi made mistake at start allowing Yang Meng-Qiao to take the win - Circuit Hero Three Race
At 16:30 on 21 June, Pan Delta's Circuit Hero Three begins their race. This is a race for pre-2002 machinery, including the hugely popular Honda EK and EG race cars. The race allows these older machines to race on. Similar machines from the same time period means very competitive racing.
According to the qualifying results from yesterday, #23 Liu Qi is on the pole position. #11 Yang Meng-Qiao is second, Zhong De-Hao and Li Jia-Cheng are third and fourth on row 2. Yang Meng-Qiao makes a good getaway as Liu Qi hits trouble. His car billows out lots of smoke, but is static on the grid. He is overwhelmed by the cars behind him. Yang Meng-Qiao takes the lead, Zhong De-Hao and Li Jia-Cheng follow closely. A lap on, Liu Qi drives back into the pits and retires from the race.
The leading trio's performances are very close, just a second apart from each other. The cars behind are very competitive with each other and there are plenty of overtaking.
On lap 4, Yang Meng-Qiao goes even faster and pulls out a gap of over 4 seconds to Zhong De-Hao. Behind them #28 Jiang Jia-Xiang and #9 Deng Gui-Feng have a fierce battle. First Jiang dives down the inside line to pass Deng, then Deng re-passes Jiang only for Jiang to take back the place again. The two are fighting each other so hard they lose ground to the cars both in front and behind them. Then, #8 stops by the side of the track to retire from the race.
On lap 5, the leader begins to lap the backmarkers, which impedes his progress. Zhong De-Hao uses the opportunity to close the gap, but Yang Meng-Qiao is still faster and as soon as he passes the backmarkers he gets back up to speed again. Li Jia-Cheng is just 2 seconds behind Zhong De-Hao and any mistake by Zhong will surely be pounced on. Yang Meng-Qiao then sets a 1:56.148 fastest lap, way faster than what the rest can manage. #9 Deng Gui-Feng finally gets rid of #28 Jiang Jia-Cheng, at the end of the race, #9 Deng finishes in 5th place.
On the last lap, the sky finally turns blue and the sun shines greatly. Li Jia-Cheng decides to launch his attack on Zhong De-Hao, the two are nose-to-tail and they even touch slightly. Zhong defends well and foils Li's attack. #82 stops by the side of the track just half a lap from the finish. In the end, Yang Meng-Qiao takes the win, Zhong De-Hao takes second place while Li Jia-Cheng finishes in third place, just 0.2 second behind Zhong.
Yang Meng-Qiao said after the race, "Today I am very satisfied with my performance. In qualifying and practice it was too hot and the engine was badly affected, it could not perform to its best. Today it was better, the car is still not very well and the final drive was not good. The pole sitter should be a second faster than me judging from his qualifying pace. I thought the only way I could win was by getting ahead at the start. I made a good start and I think he had a problem and retired. From then on I took it slowly, safeguarding my tyres and win the race. Today was really hot and it was really hard, but I am very happy."
1st runner's up Zhong De-Hao is very satisfied, "Today I was very lucky, because my car had a problem near the end and my speed dropped drastically. Under this situation I am very happy to be able to defend my position against Li Jia-Cheng. These few days have been too hot, we were totally unable to drive any faster. Today was the same. Especially my left front wheel hit a problem near the end and affected the whole car. Thankfully I could finish the race and I am really lucky to have taken second place like this."
