02 Apr 2015 Zhuhai Macau Cultural Exchange Press Conference: Circuit Hero upgrade now in sights, Guia will setup base in Zhuhai
In the morning of 22 March 2015, Zhuhai Macau Cultural Exchange Press Conference is held at Zhuhai International Circuit. This signals a new era for motorsports between neighbouring cities Zhuhai and Macau. The two cities will embark on more co-operation in promoting motorsport culture, strengthening the Pearl River Delta area's motorsport industry.
Automobile General Association Macao-China's director genral Mr. Zhong Guo-Rong and consultant Mr. Huang Guang-Xiang, Zhuhai International Circuit Board Director Mr. Jenkins Zhan and General Manager Mr. Stewart Tan attended the press conference. The two sides signed an agreement in front of over 100 media members.
The agreement mainly covers two race events that ACMC will hold at Zhuhai International Circuit. The "Macau Motorsports Festival" will be held on 27-28 June and 25-26 July 2015. This is the first time Macau's races will be held in Zhuhai for six years. This is aimed at creating a platform for Zhuhai and Macau drivers to exchange motorsport culture, information, race car modification and motorsport technologies. Ultimately, enhance everybody's performance on track.
The annual Macau Grand Prix is a street battle that attract drivers and fans alike from all over the world. It has over 60 years' history and is deeply rooted in the minds of the people of Macau. Zhuhai took inspiration from this race to build its racing circuit. Now the Macau Grand Prix is an international brand. It also brings tourism benefits to Macau. But due to area constraints, Macau has never been able to build a permanent racing circuit. The local drivers find it very hard to practise before the event. Geographically, Zhuhai is Macau's neighbour, with Macau drivers racing in Zhuhai, it will allow them to improve and encourage more motorsport cultural exchange among drivers of both cities.
Drivers who will race in the Macau Motorsport Festival are those who have international racing licenses. They are racing for the right to race in the support races of the Macau Grand Prix, so this is a serious motorsport event and the level is very high. The Zhuhai teams and drivers will be able to observe them at work at closer quarters.
The Circuit Hero race series, after nine years of development, is now divided into Circuit Hero One, Circuit Hero Two and Circuit Hero Three. Driver skills and race car preparations have been progressing. These are now the highest level of saloon car racing in the country. The best drivers in these races aspire to race in more competitive races. With the co-operation with Macau, these drivers will now hope to have the chance to race in the support races of the Macau Grand Prix. The connection may help to improve the entire Circuit Hero setup, both in terms of technology and driver skill. A win-win for both Zhuhai and Macau.
In addition, Mr. Zhong Guo-Rong said the ACMC plans to build a base inside ZIC, making it a regular training centre for Macau drivers.
