22 Dec 2013 AFR R10: Leo Ye finished the season in style in an interrupted finale
KRC’s Leo Ye doubled up his victories in the season finale of 2013 AFR Series. The race was delayed by a red flag and a failed start as Championship Runner-up Shigetomo Shimono escaped unharmed after a spectacular crash.
At the first start, Leo Ye managed to held on his lead with Jim Ka To from Champ close behind him. At the back, Buzz Racing’s Shimono stormed through the field and went up to midfield at Lap 1.
But disasters struck at Lap 2 as Shimono tried an inside move in T6, he and Neric Wei from PS went off and Shimono came out worst. His car dig into the gravel and barrel rolled for 3 times before ended up up side down on the track. The race was immediately stopped. Shimono, after a visit to the medical center, was unhurt.
At the second start, 2nd placed Jim Ka To stalled on the grid and created a further delay. The race finally went well after the 3rd start.
Leo Ye was left unchallenged and took victory again in the race and Asian Class. Champion Julio Acosta came 2nd and victory in International Class. Bob Yuan got 3rd and, again, 2nd in Asian Class. Jim Ka To took 2nd in Class, while Pete Olson completed the International Class Podium even though his car failed near the end.
Jason Kang took 3rd in Asian Class and also securing his Championship in Class after a season long battle. Leo Wong from ART scored yet another victory in Master Class and his teammates Eitan Zidkilov and Guillaume Cunnington complete the last podium.
That’s it for the 2013 season. See you in 2014!
