18 Sep 2013 Crazy overtaking battles - 2013 Pan Delta Super Racing Festival Circuit Hero One Race 2
On 15 September 2013, 2013 Pan Delta Super Racing Festival Circuit Hero One Race 2 is held in the morning at 10:00am. Mario Ferraris successfully wins the final race of the season and becomes GT class champion.
At the end of race 1, the class C and class GT champions are already confirmed. But the class A title is still undecided and the competition is more fierce after race 1. Bill O'Brien and Xu Yin are both on 40 points in joint first place and a winner must be determined today. In class B, since Huang Yong took third place in race 1, he has closed to just 7 points between himself and the leading Liu Jiang-Tao. There is a chance he can overtake for the championship.
Simon Yam, whose car has been repaired overnight, starts from the back. A surprising development happens at the end of the warm-up lap, as Mario Ferraris' Mercedes Benz C63 AMG goes into the pits for repairs. That will mean he has to start from the pit-lane. Now the two fastest machines will both start at the very back.
The duo duly begin their overtaking moves at the start. In one lap, Simon Yam manages to go from 22nd to first, demonstrating the superiority of himself as a driver and his machine. While Mario Ferraris tries very hard also, it takes him four laps to get up to second place, 7 seconds behind Yam. Just as the spectators expect the two to begin battling for overall victory, another surprising development. This time Simon Yam has to enter the pits for repairs to his ignitions. Mario Ferraris thus has a clear path to victory.
In the other classes, Huang Yong and Liu Jiang-Tao's battle for supremacy ends with Liu finishing 10th in his BMW M3 and becoming the class winner.
Mario Ferraris crosses the finish line and takes the final Circuit Hero One overall race win of 2013. Bill O'Brien and Zhu Xiao-Dong finish in second and third places.
After the race, no. 5 Mario Ferraris is penalized 30 seconds for overstepping the white line when he left the pit-lane. But this has no effect on his finishing position.
The greatest change this year for Circuit Hero One has been the shift from mainly modified Japanese machines to proper race machinese from Germany, such as BMW M3 and Mercedes AMG C63. The outstanding performances from European driver such as Mario Ferraris also provides great learning opportunities for Chinese drivers. With more foreigners in the races, Pan Delta Circuit Hero's attractiveness and fame will be further enhanced. Foreign race car technology will also be more widely introduced into China.
