KRC’s young gun Leo Ye surprised everybody by scoring an overall victory in 2013 AFR Series Round 7. The Asian Class winner defeated Japanese drivers Shigetomo Shimono and Yuki Shiraishi after some great defense and battle. Shimono, meanwhile, is the winner of International Class, and Leo Wong won again in Masters.

At the start, polesitter Yuki Shiraishi from Buzz Racing had a bad start and surrendered his posistion to Leo Ye at the first turn. Yuki tried hard to retake his position but his attack was halted by a Safety Car period caused by an accident between Jason Kang and William Lau. Jason Kang returned to the race while William Lau stopped his car in the middle of the track and retired.

The race got underway again on Lap 4 and the battle between Leo Ye and the 2 Japanese drivers hot up. Shiraishi was the first challenger and he was all over the gearbox of the KRC car. He then tried his move in T9, yet he overshot it and handed his place back to Ye. He then was overtaken by teammate Shimono.

Shimono also tried to launch his attack to the first place, yet Leo Ye stayed cool and started to pull away in the last laps. He then went on to score his maiden win, as well as the first finisher of Asian Class. Shimono finished 2nd overall and won the International Class. Shiraishi and Championship leader Julio Acosta followed them home.

Alexandra Asmasoebrata and Sunny Wong battled through the race and finished behind the leading pack. Pete Olson was 7th. Li Chao finished 8th and scored Asian Class 1st runner up. Series debutant Naomi Schiff finished 9th, and Leo Wong completes the top 10. He is also the winner of Master Class.
Chinese driver Neric finished 3rd in Asian Class, while ART’s Thomas Luedi and Robert Buchheit brought up the podium in Master Class.

The race’s biggest accident went to Taiwanese movie director Jem Chan. He was squeezed by Jason Kang at T1 and spun off at high speed. His PTRS car flew over the gravel and damaged his car. Chen retired at the spot.

Round 8 of the championship will be held tomorrow (15/9) afternoon.
