30 Jun 2017 Low threshold massive fun - Circuit Hero-Three Race 2
As the race with the lowest threshold in the Pan Delta series of races, Circuit Hero-Three has always been known for its low requirement. For 2017, Circuit Hero-Three has become a two drivers race. A driver change is mandatory mid-race. The new format attracted a huge number of driver partnerships. There are male-male partnerships, male-female partnership and also female-female partnerships. The race distance is the longest among all the races in the Pan Delta series, making it even more popular for drivers.
At 16:00 on 18 June, race 2 of Circuit Hero-Three begins. After the preceding races, the track is not so wet anymore. Drivers will be able to race normally after a few laps.
Pole position is occupied by Kuang Jian-Zhong and Huang Liang-Wen in their #80. Second on the grid is #70 Hu Qi-Ming/Tan Yun. One of the entries for this race, #90 Huang Shi-Zhao/Zhao Yi-Na has attracted plenty of attention as Huang Shi-Zhao is the first Chinese rider ever to take part in MotoGP. He just took a decent result in the ZIC Superbike 1000cc race and now he is driving in another race. He said this is a new challenge for him. Zhao Yi-Na has Circuit Hero-Three experience and the pair start in 17th place.
At the start of the race, #80 pull out a gap. At the half way point, many cars have completed their driver changes. #80 continues to lead, with #18, #15, #6 and #32 are behind him. In the last few laps, #80 and #70 begin to fight for the lead. #80 finally makes the pass at T14 as both cars get their lap times under 2:00.
Finally, #80 crosses the finish line to win the race. #70 and #18 follow him home. #90 Huang Shi-Zhao/Zhao Yi-Na takes second place in A3 class.
After the race, #9 Han Fu-Ying, aged over 62, said, “This has been a really exciting race, the atmosphere is really good. We love it. Our drivers’ ages added together is well over 120, but we still enjoyed this race very much. There was rain in the morning so we set the car up for wet race. But just before the race the sun shone again, so we changed to dry tyres. The car is kind of mixed up, but that is part of racing. We enjoyed this race and will take part again.”
Huang Shi-Zhao/Zhao Yi-Na are on the podium. Huang Shi-Zhao said after the race, “In the race we used dry tyres. They are very different from the dry tyres in superbike racing. This is a fun feeling. I am very excited to be on the podium as a touring car driver. This is very different from superbike rider. I enjoyed this feeling, this is what I wanted.”
Overall winner #80 Kuang Jian-Zhong said, “As a Macanese driver, I really appreciate the race format and atmosphere. I admire Pan Delta race series, I feel I am a star attraction. I cannot find this in Macau. We have used wet weather setting but with dry tyres. We have to be very careful in the corners. But since we were ahead, we avoided the influence from the other cars. For me, this was a perfect race.”
