18 Mar 2013 Yuki Shiraishi captured Pan Delta AFR Series R2 win
2013 Pan Delta AFR Series R2 was held in 3:30 pm under cloudy weather. The top three drivers were all belonged to the International Class. Japanese driver Yuki Shiraishi from Buzz Racing Team claimed the winner, following by his teammate Shigetomo Shimono. The second runner-up was Hong Kong driver Sunny Wong from PS Racing team.
All drivers exited T1 smoothly after thestart. R1 winner and pole-sitter Shigetomo Shimono led earlier on, as Yuki Shiraishi, who was 3rd on grid, overtook Julio Acosta immediately after T1.
As Yuki Shiraishi set the faster lap, he overtook Shigetomo Shimono in lap 3 and led to the end of the race. PS Racing team's Sunny Wong fought with team mate Alexandra Asmasoebrata fiercely. After a few laps, he overtook Alexandra and started chasing the 3rd placed Acosta.
Because of a collison between Samson Chan and another driver, the front part of Samson’s racing car was damaged. Race control had to call Samson back to pit for safety. At the same time, Kenneth Low from ART spun off in T4 and crashed into the side wall and stopped in the middle of the track. As a result, safety car was deployed and led for two laps.
When the race started again, Yuki Shiraishi immediately soup up and increased the gap between other racers. However, the competition among Shigetomo Shimono, Julio Acosta and Sunny Wong for the final steps on the podium was very fierce. Finally Shimono defended successfully and claimed the first runner up title. On the last lap, Acosta spun into the grass and Wongseized the chance to overtake him and came home third.
Young Taiwanese driver Jason Kang from KRC started in 9th but he raced aggressively to fight back. He finally past the finish line by taking 4th overall and 1st in Asian class. Singapore driver Tim Teo was in the 13th position at the beginning but crossed the finish line in 5th overall and first runner up in the Asian class, following by Champ motorsport driver Yuan Bo. Taiwanese artists Roy Chiuspun off track at the closing stage of race and cannot finish the race.
Director from Taiwan Jem Chan secured his winner position of the Master Class during the race. He indicated that a win in Master Class was beyond his expectationas he was catching up steadily and he was feeling more comfortable during the race. Leo Wong and Thomas Luedi shared the Master Class podium with Jem.
Pan Delta AFR Series' next round will be held at the Shanghai International Circuit.
