06 Aug 2012 Yudhistira: claims race 2
Hadi Wijaya's pet strategy of waiting to the final lap before making his bid for the race win had backfired in Race 2. Instead, Yudhistira logged his first Underbone 115cc win of the season in his first appearance at the Zhuhai International Circuit, host to Round 3 of the 2012 PETRONAS Asia Road Racing Championship.
The 10-lap race took off with Amirul Ariff Musa taking the holeshot. But with 15 riders in the lead group, Amirul's lead was shortlived. Malaysian rider Norizman Ismail put up a strong performance, but in the final lap, Yudhis muscled his way to the front and successfully clinched a win with a total time of 22:17.715s. Denny Triyugo finished second with 22:17.729s while Amirul Ariff Musa was third with 22:17.748s.
"It's my first time racing in Zhuhai and I am very happy to have won the race. The new ruling that banned the Underbone 115cc riders from zig-zagging at the front straight should be applauded as it makes this intense race safer for the riders. It has impacted our strategy somewhat, but this is a new challenge that the teams and riders must rise up to," said Yudhis.
Nevertheless, Hadi Wijaya is still in control of the Underbone 115cc class, having amassed a total of 122 points after Round 3. Norizman Ismail is second overall with 88 points and Rey Ratukore third overall with 76 points.
Similarly, Hadi's team, Yamaha Yamalube KYT R9 Tunggal Jaya, is also in the lead in the teams' standings with 122 points. Kawasaki KYT Rextor Manual Tech is second overall with 94 points while Harian Metro Y-TEQ SCK Honda Racing is third overall with 88 points.
