06 Aug 2012 Hadi: Stays true to form
Race 1 of the Underbone 115cc class in Round 3 of the 2012 PETRONAS Asia Road Racing Championship was an intense 17-bike battle for P1, with Indonesian rider Hadi Wijaya staying true to his favourite strategy.
Hadi allowed the rest of the combatants to lead at the front of the pack, content to keep to a low-profile in the middle of the group. Norizman Ismail, Yudhistira, Gupita Kresna and Denny Triyugo were among some of the consistent leaders in the 10 lap race. Hadi did not push himself to the front until the final lap when, as always, with a sudden spurt of speed, Hadi led the final run to the finish line, scoring his fourth win of the season with a time of 22:19.617s.
Malaysian rider Ahmad Afif Amran finished second with 22:19.686s, 0.069 seconds behind Hadi. Denny Triyugo Laksono completed the podium formation in third place with 22:19.713s.
"I am very happy with this win. There were a number of riders who were saying that the common Underbone strategy of waiting until the final lap before attacking is no longer effective. I happen to disagree, as this strategy has served me well time and time again. This is the same strategy that I will use for the next race," said Hadi.
