22 Mar 2012 A challenge from a new star, Pan Delta ZIC Superbike Race 2
After the supercar show and the exciting drift and stunt performances, at 1:30pm, the engines are fired up again and their ear-piercing noises are heard all around the track. Now the track is warmer with the hot sun beaming at full blast.
Renowned local rider Huang Shi-Zhao and his young teammate Li Zheng-Peng have made good impressions in the morning. According to yesterday's second qualifying results, Li will start just behind race 1 winner Takuya Fujita. Li is now poised to become Huang's fastest teammate as well as competitor. His emergence means we are treated to the sight of the best young talents of China and Japan going head to head.
The race starts and Takuya Fujita leads into the first turn. Huang Shi-Zhao and Dan Kruger are second and third. Dan Kruger though re-asserts himself and overtakes Huang for second before turn 2. Li Zheng-Peng runs in fourth place.
On lap 2, Li Zheng-Peng's bike seems to have a small problem and he begins to lose ground to Huang Shi-Zhao. On lap 3, Fujita speeds up and laps in 1:38s. This is a lap time beyond all the national riders. Fujita will be unbeatable if his bike does not have a problem. On lap 5, Fujita once again makes another sub 1:38s lap, a 1:37.982.
On lap 8, either Fujita has slowed down, or Dan Kruger has sped up, the two bikes are only 1.5 seconds apart. Furthermore, there are many backmarkers in Fujita's way. This could be Dan's chance. But Fujita is having none of it, he quickly speeds up and pulls away once again. On lap 9, the gap between the two grows to 2.5 seconds.
In the end, Takuya Fujita wins as he pleases, with a 3 seconds gap to Dan Kruger. Huang Shi-Zhao finishes third and Li Zheng-Peng follows in fourth place.
