11 Dec 2011 Track Torque raises money for Ronald McDonalds House again
On 11 December 2011, in the Circuit Hero 500 km Race, Track Torque racing’s three drivers will once again raise money for Ronald McDonald House Hong Kong.
The three drivers are Bill O’Brien, Nigel Farmer and Tommy Chan. They are sharing a Caterham Super 7. All the operating costs regarding the race car, such as tyres and fuel, are borne by the three drivers. Therefore all the money raised by the team are donated to Ronald McDonald House Hong Kong.
The team finished second overall and first in class, raising HK$400,000 in the process. This year the team is back for another campaign and has already raised close to HK$610,000. Among the donors, Coca-Cola has donated US$20,000 and interestingly the team’s rival Frank Yu also made a HK$50,000 donation.
This year the team has invited a group of young patients from Ronald McDonald House Hong Kong to come to the circuit, meet the team and watch the race. Most of them suffered from cancer at a young age and after years of treatment have recovered.
Bill O’Brien said, “The Ronald McDonald House Hong Kong is right next to Prince of Wales Hospital. For children, the hospital is a terrible place. The house provides lodging for families to stay together. There is a kitchen and the family can have meals together. It helps the children’s recovery. My daughter was sick a few years ago and unfortunately she passed away, but we were able to live together in Ronald McDonald House during the time that she was sick. I am very supportive of their work.”
Ronald McDonald House thanked the circuit’s support of their work by presenting a commemorative banner to Rikki Dy-Liacco, Operations Director of Audi Zhuhai International Circuit.
