It was under pouring rain that ILMC competitors took to the track today, which led a few surprises. The CRS Racing Ferrari F430, in LM GTE Am class, was ahead of factory teams such as BMW in LM GTE Pro with the ninth overall fastest time. In the latter category, the Lotus Evora of Slingerland/Rich/Rasmussen took advantage of these conditions to set the best performance.

In contrast, the usual order was in force in prototypes: Peugeot and Audi in the forefront. In 1'34''080, Sebastien Bourdais (Peugeot 908 #7) was the fastest. Second, Tom Kristensen and Allan McNish (Audi R18 TDI #2) are in the same second, and credited with the fastest speed of the preliminary session (260.9 km/h). A balance of performance has been the hallmark of the duel between the two major manufacturers since the 6 Hours of Silverstone. In the wake of the two fastest cars were the other Peugeot of Montagny/Sarrazin and the second Audi of Bernhard/Fässler. Andy Meyrick, Stefan Mücke and Harold Primat, the trio of drivers in the Lola Aston Martin, set the fifth time in front of Lola-Toyota of Jani/Prost and the two cars OAK Racing.
