20 Mar 2011 ZIC Superbike Championship Race 2: Huang Shi-Zhao takes win from the back as Xiao Jin proves his worth
According to the race regulations, the starting grid for ZIC Superbike Championship race 2 is dependent on the results of race 1. Therefore pole position goes to Xiao Jin, while Huang Shi-Zhao will have to start from the back due to his oil pump failure the previous day. This is actually a more interesting grid formation as Huang Shi-Zhao will not be settled with a place at the back.
At the start of the race, Yamaha R6 rider Xiao Jin leads the field into turn 1. Behind him, the field battles for second. After only half a lap, Japanese rider Yuji Okabayashi has a big accident and has to retire from the race.
Surprisingly, Huang Shi-Zhao, who started from 15th place on the grid, manages to get himself into second place in just one single lap. On lap 3, the on form Huang passes Xiao Jin and move into the lead. Maybe he is affected by his master's extraoridinary speed, Xiao Jin loses two more positions soon afterwards, first to Dan Kruger then to Yasuyoshi Kimura, while Cheung Wai-On also closes in.
In the middle of the race, Huang Shi-Zhao extends his lead to over 6 seconds. Xiao Jin now begins to push and tries to close the gap between himself and Yasuyoshi Kimura. On lap 8, Japanese rider Yasuyoshi Kimura begins to speed up as well, the battle between these two riders captures the spectators' attention and they start waving to show their support. In the end, Yasuyoshi Kimura manages to pass Dan Kruger for second place.
After losing his second place, Dan Kruger falls back into Xiao Jin's range. On the final lap, the gap between the two men is less than a second! Huang Shi-Zhao takes the flag for the win to compensate for yesterday's loss. Yasuyoshi Kimura finishes second while Xiao Jin passes Dan Kruger on the last lap for third place overall.
