As expected, the race was very competitive based on the Q time this morning. Suriya Bala Kerisnan Thevar, who was starting from 2nd on grid, had a good start and led the group into turn 1. Although he was challenged by the three cars following him closely, he drove a controlled race and never gave up his lead during the race and took the checker flag.

Kei Yamaura, stalled his car before warm up lap on the grip and had to start from the pit lane. He drove a courageous race and fought his way back to finish in position 5th.

In lap 2, Chi Cong Li also overtook Samin and rose to second and stayed there for most of the race. These top four cars; Suriya, Chi Cong, Samin and Sandy basically moving with close formation throughout the whole race.

By lap 9, the top four cars were already catching up to Zhang Ran, who had a minor spun earlier. At the end of the straight, Chi Cong Li ran out of track, sled into the sand area and had to quit the race. Sandy took second and Samin took the last place on the podium for Race 1.

With only four points difference between them, Samin and Tin Sritrai will fight for the season driver champion runner-up in Sunday’s race.
