20 Jun 2010 Circuit Hero - Battlefield Heroes
At 2:15pm on 20th June 2010, Circuit Hero takes to the track for its only race of the weekend. Many drivers in this race are now famous stars in the national racing scene, such as He Wei-Hang, Tang You-Xi, Tan Wei and Liao Ju-Rong, with the level of sponsorship and race queens that come with them, making this a very colourful and attractive race.
In yesterday's qualifying, pole sitter Tan Wei and second placed Tang You-Xi are only 0.06 second apart. With the same car type and similar modification level, coupled with the drivers' similar skill level, the outcome of the race is hard to predict.
At the end of the warm-up lap, the race cars are back to the grid and waiting for the start. ZIC has installed an in-car camera in Tang You-Xi's car, providing real-time video coverage from the driver's point-of-view. As the red light goes out, Tan Wei does not start well, although he is in first place, the cars behind him are quicker, and four cars are absolutely together as they squeeze into turn 1. Tan Wei sticks to the inside line but gets involved in an accident. He loses control of the car and spins from one side of the corner to the other. Three cars take their turn to hit him and push it into the sand trap. Tan Wei has no option but to retire from the race.
The race officials show the yellow flags at turn 1 and the race continues, since the damaged cars are out of the racing line. No. 23 Liao Ju-Rong leads from no. 21 Zuo Ming-Wen. No. 24 Zhang Xiao-Bin runs third, but not for long as he peels into the pits a lap later.
The race continues Without two of its stars. On lap 5, He Wei-Hang and no. 21 Zuo Ming-Wen begins to fight for second place. He Wei-Hang keeps trying and finally make it stick at turn 9.
On lap 8, at turns 3 and 4, no. 21 Zuo Ming-Wen re-takes his place from no. 20 He Wei-Hang. He Wei-Hang then tries every trick in the book to get back ahead, occasionally even runs on the grass.
At this point, no. 23 Liao Ju-Rong suddenly encounters mechanical problem, probably a blown tyre, a bitter end for a fine drive as there is just one lap to go.
On the last lap, the battling duo of Zuo Ming-Wen and He Wei-Hang, has the chance to take victory. He Wei-Hang tries to draw alongside after exiting the final corner and takes the flag, but it was too late, no. 21 Zuo Ming-Wen wins the race, with no. 20 He Wei-Hang a fighting second with third place going to no. 18 Luo Wen-Ding.
