On 18 September 2016, the popular ZIC Superbike Race commences at 14 p.m.. As the curtain closer, in this 10 laps sprint the series titles will be decided. This great scene will surely satisfy all the fans’ appetite.
According to the best lap times of the previous races, the two classes are mixed into the starting grid. Mark Aitchison, Li Zheng-Peng and Huang Shi-Zhao are on their customary front row. Ouyang Fu, who has already claimed the 600cc title, starts in 9th position, ahead of many 1,000cc riders.
As the red lights go off, the superbikes power off the grid. Mark Aitchison successfully shakes off everyone to lead the race. The riders behind him try to give chase. Everyone finish the first lap orderly but some are already trying to pass. In 600cc CL2 class, Yuan Ji-Bo and Huang Zhi-Yu’s battle for the series title hots up. But Yuan Ji-Bo suffers a setback when he drops back to 18th place on lap 2, while Huang Zhi-Yu maintains his 15th place.
Mark Aitchison continues to lead without problems. Li Zheng-Peng, Huang Shi-Zhao, Mitsunori Okamura and the rest follow. 600cc rider Ouyang Fu runs among the 1000cc riders, performing very well. On lap 9, Aitchison enjoys a 15 seconds advantage and another lap later takes the chequered flag for yet another win. Huang Shi-Zhao overtakes Li Zheng-Peng on the penultimate lap, finishing second in the end. The 10 laps race is soon over, most riders successfully finish the race. Huang Zhi-Yu and Yuan Ji-Bo finish the race in 15th and 18th positions respectively, Yuan Ji-Bo thus amassing enough points to take the CL2 class honours.
Race winner and series title winner Mark Aitchison said great care must be taken when racing in the combined race. He also said he has only focused on each race and did not notice he has won the series title. He will take great pleasure to return to the race series next year. Second placed finisher Huang Shi-Zhao said he made a better start compared with yesterday, but the tyre temperature was not optimal, as for the whole season, he said, “I hope next year we can achieve better results. This season is over and I want to thank the team’s wholehearted support.”
Li Zheng-Peng takes his fifth series title. It was a smooth race for him and he would like to thank the team for its support, as well as the competition. “I am really glad to beat the Japanese riders in my class.” 600cc CL1 champion Ouyang Fu said, “Maybe I have had more practice than the other 1000cc riders, that’s why I could beat some of them. I sometimes practice with them, too.” Huang Zhi-Yu gave praise again to Yuan Ji-Bo but only give himself 80 points, saying, “I am very happy with the race although I could not my ideal lap time.”
