17 Sep 2016 Maxx Ebenal from Asia Racing Team won the R9 AFR Series while Josh Burdon from BlackArts Racing boosted to 2nd from the far back
Asian Formula Renault R9 had finished on 17th September afternoon. The critical battle was always between Josh Burdon from BlackArts Racing and Maxx Ebenal from Asia Racing Team. Certainly Najiy Ayyad from S&D Motorsports was another strong rival in the Series who was seeking for the overall championship of 2016 AFR Series.
During the formation lap Josh had an unfortunate mechanical failure and forced to start from the pit lane, which losing the biggest chance to widen the gap with the drivers. Maxx and Najiy took this chance and try to get away as far as possible, but Pavan Ravishankar from BlackArts Racing was not allowing them to leave far and closed the gap with Najiy lap by lap. Class B driver Jasper Thong from Asia Racing Team was having a good start but also got followed by his teammate Hua Miao closely at the back, but Hua had to defend Xie Hui Lin from Champ Motorsports right at his tail.
In the middle of the race, Josh showed his royal performance and clocked an average lap time of 1:37s range. By the end of the race, he overtook 17 drivers and climbed from 19th to 2nd place, and at the same time Pavan overtook Najiy due to the mistake made by the latter. Maxx won his 2nd champion without pressure and runner-ups goes to BlackArts Racing Team.
Class B Jasper won his 3rd champion in this season with 5 seconds gap with his teammate Hua Miao while Xie Hui Lin just lost by a second gap and took the 3rd. What deserved to mention the most was Li Qing Yuan from BlackArts Racing performed so well and took the overall 4th in the race. He is now a step closer to the Road to Champion winner. Master Trophy goes to William Tan from Asia Racing Team.
