05 Jul 2016 Circuit Hero Two:The best modified saloon series is here
At 2:20 p.m. on 19 June, Pan Delta s main show, the 43 strong Circuit Hero Two race officially draws back its curtains. According to qualifying results, the Subaru BRZ driven by Chen Bing-Xiong is on pole position. Chen Zhong s SEAT is in second place. Che Liang is third in the other SEAT. Ding Shan starts fourth in his Scirocco.
The red lights go out and the race begins. The huge grid of cars filing through the first corner is a real sight to behold. Fortunately all the drivers are aware of this and they funnel through safely. Chen Zhong makes a good start and leads into turn 1. Chen Bing-Xiong is down in second place while Che Liang runs third. Liu Peng overtakes several cars at the start and around the lap to be fourth by the end of lap 1.
On lap 5, #31 Guo Bin s race car is given a drive-through penalty. Lap 6, #20 Huang Le-Fu s race car s bumper is tilted upwards, probably damaged from the earlier hit. On lap 7, Chen Bing-Xiong, while chasing Chen Zhong, loses control at turn 10 and runs onto the grass. Fortunately he sustains no damage and is able to continue, albeit down to third place as Che Liang is already through.
On the last lap, Chen Zhong continues to lead and enjoys a 16 seconds advantage. Che Liang is also fairly secure in second place with a 5 second gap between himself and Chen Bing-Xiong. At the finish line, Chen Zhong wins the race, Che Liang takes second place with Chen Bing-Xiong third. Huang Kun-Rang and Liu Peng finished fourth and fifth respectively.
After the race, Chen Zhong said, “Today it was quite a relaxed race. Yesterday was very hot when I also raced in Circuit Hero One. The gap between the Circuit Hero One race and Circuit Hero Two qualifying was just 40 minutes. That s why I performed badly in qualifying. Usually we can do 1:46.2, yesterday I managed only 1:47. But today I made a good start so the race was very smooth. The only caution was the oil at turn 10. Fortunately I saved the car. So, very relaxed and very happy.”
Che Liang is very appreciative of this race. “Today I started well, I worked with my teammate and we passed Chen Bing-Xiong at the start, that felt good. It is very effective to work with a team. The weather was very hot, my fitness and the race car deteriorated a lot. So today we were quite conservative. I am very happy in the end we could get on the podium. The Circuit Hero race has great atmosphere and the competition is very fierce. We use SEAT for the race while other teams have a lot of support. That means they have a lot of civilian involvements. That s very good and it will only get better in the future.”
Chen Bing-Xiong wins his class and is very excited. “I was very lucky today to complete the race in such circumstances. I am very happy. Turn 10 was very dangerous. We ran at the front and the race organizers have not yet discovered the oil on that part of the track. I ran full throttle through that corner and went off. I ran across a lot of grass to get back on track. I put the power on and I went off again because there was still oil on my tyres. To be able to continue in such situation was very lucky. I am very happy to have won the race today. In the last race I was fourth, back then I said, I must work hard and try to be on the podium in the next race. And I did it!”
