(Beijing, China – 12 September 2014) China and Asia’s leading international junior single-seater series Formula Masters China Series (FMCS) is set for a show-stopping weekend from September 19-21. With four races scheduled at China’s Zhuhai International Circuit as part of the Pan Delta Super Racing Festival, the field of 17 of the region’s top talents is set to battle it out for victory and valuable championship points that could make all the difference at next month’s 2014 season finale in Shanghai.

Leading the charge to Zhuhai is James Munro (17) of Cebu Pacific Air by KCMG. The New Zealand driver has led the championship all season, but rival Matthew Solomon (18) of Eurasia Motorsport has stormed to second on the leaderboard after four wins in the last five races. Hong Kong driver Solomon arrives in Zhuhai fresh from an impressive podium finish on his endurance racing debut at the Malaysia Millennium Endurance Race with the Audi R8 LMS ultra #99 of Team Absolute Racing.

Briton Dan Wells (22) of Cebu Pacific Air by KCMG is third in the championship and heads to China buoyed by a podium finish on his British Formula 3 debut last month at Brands Hatch. Indonesia’s Darma Hutomo (16) of Humpuss Junior Racing Team is currently fourth overall in his first FMCS season, while Meritus.GP driver Jake Parsons (19) of Australia joins the championship for a second weekend after a strong debut in Sepang saw him take his maiden victory, putting him fifth in the Drivers Classification.

Yuan Bo, currently sixth overall, is looking to further extend his lead in the FMCS Best Chinese Driver Trophy. The Eurasia Motorsport driver also has his sights set firmly on the podium having finished a personal best of fourth earlier this season.

As the 2014 season’s penultimate round, Zhuhai represents an ideal opportunity for the drivers to gain valuable championship points. In addition to the scheduled Races 13-15, the Zhuhai weekend will also include Race 3, rescheduled from earlier this year when it was postponed due to torrential rains. But while an additional challenge awaits, the FMCS drivers are more than ready to tackle the weekend ahead.

While the majority of the field raced in Zhuhai earlier this year, mid-season newcomers Parsons, Malaysia’s Daniel Woodroof of Meritus.GP and Japan’s Takashi Hata of Super License, will have the added task of getting up to speed on an unfamiliar circuit. Making his FMCS debut this weekend with Super License is Tomoki Takahashi of Japan.

Singapore’s Sean Hudspeth of Eurasia Motorsport returns to FMCS after a two-round absence due to National Service.

“We’re delighted to return to Zhuhai for what I’m confident will be four hotly- contested races,” said Dominic Lyncker, Director Motorsport, Volkswagen Group China. “The 2014 FMCS season began in Zhuhai and for many of our drivers, it was the first time they had raced in a formula car. We are very much looking forward to returning to China’s first permanent race track to see how the drivers have developed over the past few months. As the race for the 2014 championship nears its conclusion, we expect an intensely competitive and exciting weekend of racing.”

Qualifying for Races 13 and 15 will take place on Friday, September 19, along with the 12-lap Race 13. Races 14 (7 laps) and 15 (12 laps) will take place on Saturday, while Sunday will host the rescheduled Race 3.
