22 Mar 2014 ZIC Super Bike Race 1: Huang Shi-Zhao off to great start
In the afternoon of 22 March, with warm sunshine, the 2014 Pan Delta Super Racing Festival is off to a good start. A grandstand full of spectators are expecting even more excitement this season. One of the most popular races of Pan Delta, ZIC Superbike Championship, begins the afternoon programme.
According to the qualifying result from the morning, no. 9 Huang Shi-Zhao, no, 72 Dan Kruger, no. 26 Li Zheng-Peng line up on the first row.
At 14:15, the race commences. With a massive 32 entries, the roar as the machines go off impresses every time. Huang Shi-Zhao makes a great start and leads into the first corner. Dan Kruger follows closely, with Li Zheng-Peng in third place. Two of the bikes have a coming together and fall at the outside of turn 1. Both riders appear unhurt.
On lap 2, Huang Shi-Zhao is already beginning to move away from the rest, being 3 seconds ahead of Dan Kruger. It is a big gap and it appears that Huang Shi-Zhao is on better form this weekend than Dan. Huang Shi-Zhao also makes the fastest lap of the race: 1:37.332.
Superbikes are known for their high power and light weight. These machines enjoy great acceleration and late breaking. But the thin tyres and lack of contact means they corner much slowly compared with cars. Ruders who do not turn corners well are often find themselves under attack on the straights.
On lap 8, Huang Shi-Zhao continues to lead, Dan Kruger stays in second place, about 5 seconds behind, Li Zheng-Peng is slightly behind the front two and these are the top 3.
At the flag, Huang Shi-Zhao successfully wins the race. Dan Kruger takes second and third place goes to Li Zheng-Peng.
