07 Jun 2020 Rain unable to drench the fans passion - 2020 Circuit Hero Time Attack Round 1 ends

Due to the pandemic, Circuit Hero Time Attack is finally held at Zhuhai International Circuit (ZIC) on 6-7 June after a long wait of more than half a year.

Round 1 of Circuit Hero Time Attack attracted over 100 fans to ZIC as the pandemic has eased up. ZIC has become a busy place again. Among the participants, many are podium finishers from last year, joined by many newcomers. Everybody exchanged information and their passion for motorsport is finally getting a release. For this round, ZIC divided all the entries into 9 divisions and to be run over 2 days. The virus prevention facilities are also in place, allowing the drivers to take part and have fun with a peace of mind.

6 June

The two day event is held under the rain, testing the rain driving skills of the drivers. CH1, Ch2, CH6 and CH7 timed sessions are run on 6 June. Zeng Han-Sheng preforms well and takes the top position in CH1 class in his Honda GK5. Li Jia-Qiang and Long Wei-Ning finish second and third. Yang Fu-Sen takes CH2 class 1st place in his GK5. Li Zhuo-Xian and Chen Feng are second and third. In CH6 class, Zhao Xie driving a 235 to take 1st place with a small gap of 0.8 second. Zhong Bin and Huang Jian-Ju finish second and third respectively. In CH7 class, Li Yi-Xin takes first place in A45 with a relatively big advantage. Luo Rui and Lu Han-Jie are second and third place finishers.

7 June

Today welcomes the competitions of CH3, CH5, CH-A, CH-B and CH-C classes. In the morning practice, the rain made the track very slippery. A number of drivers lost control and spun into the gravel. The race officials showed the red flag to stop the session. Overall most drivers were on good form and were now warmed up for the timed session in the afternoon.

The rain stopped in the afternoon and CH3 & CH5 classes were on track together for their timed session. After two laps, Xie Bin drives his Honda Civic around in 2:08.438 to take top place, with a 3 seconds gap to Xian Guang-Ming. Then #68 loses control and spins into the gravel. The red flag is shown. 5 minutes later the session is resumed, He Zhi-Rong performs a 2:05.211 lap in his Honda S2000 to take first place overall. In the end CH3 class top 3 are He Zhi-Rong, Cen Hong-Xi, Xiao Jia-Wei. As an invited guest's result does not count, CH5 top 3 are Chen Ye-Chong, Long Jie-Wei and Liang Guo-Hao.

In the CH-A class timed session, Xiao Zhen-Yu sets a 1:49.940 in his Porsche GT3 RS on lap 2 to take provisional first place. Afterwards Xiao Zhen-Yu begins an entertaining battle with Ye Zi-Bin in a McLaren, the two take turns to set the fastest time. In the end, Xiao Zhen-Yu sets a 1:46.845 to put a lock on first place. The top 3 of CH-A are Xiao Zhen-Yu, Ye Zi-Bin and Teng Yuan.

In the CH-B timed session, Huang Hao-Ren sets the ball rolling with a 1:57.784 in his Porsche 997. In the session, #278 suddenly self combusted and the red flag is shown. 7 minutes later the session is resumed. In the last minute, Zhan Qi-Heng sets the fastest lap overall with a 1:56.667 in his BMW M3 and puts himself in the top position. CH-B top 3 are Zhan Qi-Heng, Huang Hao-Ren and Deng Jie-Yan.

Finally, CH-C appears on track, the drivers are very good and in two laps 5 of them have managed sub 1:55 laps. Among them Ma Yue takes the provisional lead with a 1:51.204 lap in his BMW M2. Meanwhile Liang Tong-Yi leads Zhou Jie by 0.041 second in 2nd and 3td places. In the last 7 minutes, Zhang Yu-Quan takes his BMW M2 up two places to second overall. Then Liang Tong-Yi manages the fastest lap overall, 1:51.111 to take first place. Ma Yue comes back with a fast lap to overtake Zhang Yu-Quan for second overall. As invited guests' results do not count, the top 3 of CH-C class are Liang Tong-Yi, Ma Yue and Zhou Jie.

Thus ended the first round of 2020 Circuit Hero Time Attack, but everybody still wants more. They want to keep driving their cars around. Circuit Hero Time Attack Round 2 will be held in August. Let's make a date for that!
