At noon on 16 June, the highly popular Speed Hero 600cc Race 3 begins. There is a total of 22 riders in this race. The first row is occupied by CL1 class #26 Li Zheng-Peng, CL2 class #17 Lin Zhi-Fei and CL1 #99 Hu Zhao-Neng.
In yesterday’s qualifying, Li Zheng-Peng set a pole position time that is almost 1 second faster than the second placed rider. For this type of closely fought races, a second is big gap, since a superbike is capable of 200km/h on the straights.
The race begins, on lap 1, #99 Hu Zhao-Neng gets into the lead and completes the first lap in 1:44.346. But #26 Li Zheng-Peng is not one to give up easily, he succeeds in overtaking him on lap 2. #28 Chow Ho-Wan follows him through to second place. Soon the trio forms the leading group. #99 Hu Zhao-Neng holds on to third place, waiting for a chance to bounce back. On lap 5, the riders have found their rhythm, and they take their best laps to about 1:40. Their competition is very fierce. #26 Li Zheng-Peng takes his lap time to within 1:40, he keeps up the pace and his superior skills and strong psychology helps him take the win.
In the end, #26 Li Zheng-Peng crosses the line in first place. #28 Chow Ho-Wan finishes second and #99 Hu Zhao-Neng takes third. They are also the top 3 in CL1 class. CL2 class top 3 finished 4th, 5th and 6th overall. They are #17 Lin Zhi-Fei, #66 Ao Jian-Bin and #3 Ao Ieong Hou.
After the race, Li Zheng-Peng said the weather at Zhuhai International Circuit today is warmer than the last two days, he has adjusted his form quickly just before the race and fortunately he was able to perform. For tomorrow’s race, he hopes the competition with the 1000cc superbikes will not affect his own rhythm.
