24 Mar 2014 Pu Jun Jin penalised and lost his win in AFR R2
ART’s Chinese driver Pu Jun Jin, who won the 2014 Asian Formula Renault Series R2 after a great battle with Heart Forex Buzz Racing’s Shigetomo Shimono, was penalised and been stripped of his overall and Asian Class win. Shimono took the overall victory, while Champ’s Qin Tianqi got Asian Class win.
Pu Jun Jin has failed to observe the track limit during the race and therefore a 30-second penalty is imposed. As a result, Pu Jun Jin fell 8th overall and only got 2nd in Asian Class.
ART’s Chinese driver Pu Jun Jin had earlier made a last-lap move to take the overall victory from Heart Forex Buzz Racing’s Shigetomo Shimono. Shimono got International Class victory, while Guillaume Cunnington got Masters Class win.
Champ Motorsport’s Jim Ka To, who won in R1, got the jump at the start again and went ahead of Pu Jun Jin, but then fell back during the race. Shimono first passed him, then Pu Jun Jin also overtook him in T1, who started his pursuit towards Shimono.
Safety Car was brought out as a result of the stranded car Thomas Luedi. After the interval, Pu Jun Jin continue his hunt down on Shimono. As R2 is a 25 minute plus 1 lap race, the race distance is longer and that proved costly to Shimono as he was only beaten down by Pu Jun Jin in the 15th and last lap of the race.
Jim Ka To never looked like a threat for race victory by starting the race on old tires and settled for 3rd and 2nd in International, which became 2nd place overall. Teammate Qin Tianqi finished behind him and took Asian Class 2nd, while Maxx Ebenal from PS Racing got International Class’s last podium place. KRC’s Wang Yang got 3rd in Asian Class, despite a spin early in the race.
Masters Class victory goes to Guillaume Cunnington again, while Q Team’s Jem Chen and FRD Racing Team’s Kenneth Lau got the other 2 podium places.
