Race 3 of the Clio Cup China Series finished yesterday at Zhuhai International Circuit on a humid day. In order to balance the strength of drivers, this race is separated into Class A—Experienced Drivers, and Class B—Newcomers.

Qualifying 1&2 – Eric Lo captured both pole positions

Eric Lo took pole position with a commanding performance in qualifying. He led a way in Q2 and grabbed pole by his fastest lap time 1:56.224.

Generally, the qualifying was going quite smooth but the first half of qualifying 1-- accidents came one by one in this period. At first, John Shen went back after rotation. Then Jay Shi spun into the grass ground while both Zhou Xuan Yu and Zhu Jun Han spun into the gravel, and Yu Kam Cheong stopped on the track abruptly. With this situation, the red flag was sent out and the track was closed until the troubled-cars were dragged away.

Round 1&2 – Eric Lo wins Class A and Jay Shi takes Class B

Round 1 started at 14:00p.m. Yu Kam Cheong and Kenneth Lau gave a fierce chase, kept overtaking each other. Yu Kam Cheong seized an opportunity when two laps remaining, defending his third place at final. Eric Lo gained addition 2 points for making the fastest lap time. Race went flawlessly without any injuries, except a newcomer driver Benson Wong had a slight crash on John Shen. The other newcomer Zhu Jun Han eliminated the haze during the qualifying, claimed his first podium as the 1st runner up in Class B. However, one of the drivers Michael Choi did not start in this round.

In the contrary, Round 2 seems a bit more variable. The yellow flag came out when Kenneth Ma spun onto the gravel. Then Zhou Xuan Yu spun into the gravel right after Kenneth Lau and Francis Tjia had a crash, hence, the yellow flag had been sent out again briefly. And Kenneth Lau did not start in this round. For Class B, after FRD team’s excellent job by fixing the car in time, newcomer Benson Wong himself did a remarkable job during this round, gained his first podium as the 2nd runner-up.

After the race, newcomer Benson Wong and Zhu Jun Han both indicated that Clio Cup China Series has so much fun, and it is a good race for new racers like them to participate.
