Zhuhai International Circuit is the first permanent racing Circuit built in China. It was completed in November 1996, at the time of its completion, it also held its first international event, the BPR Global GT Series.
ZIC is an FIA (International Automobile Federation) approved, 4.3 km long Grade 2 circuit. The high international standards of Zhuhai International Circuit allows it to become the home of Chinese motorsports. ZIC was designed using a major design consultancy in Australia, including Kinhill Engineering (now known as Halliburton KBR). In 1999, the famous F1 track designer Hermann Tilke GmbH upgraded the track facilities.
ZIC provides spectacular and world-class racing. There are plenty of driver overtaking opportunities through a series of challenging corners. The clockwise circuit has four left turns, ten right turns and two straights of 900 metres and 500 metres respectively.
ZIC is designed to FIA Formula One (F1) and FIM Motorcycle Grand Prix (MotoGP) specifications. A fast corner leads car and motorcycles into the 900 metre straight immediately, allowing cars to reach the maximum speed of over 300 km / h. The average track width is 12 meters, while the start/finish straight is 14 meters wide.
Since its inception, ZIC has held numerous international race events, including BPR Global GT Series, FIA GT Championship, A1 Grand Prix and Intercontinental Le Mans Cup.
In order to create a joyful and exciting racing event that can be enjoyed by every Chinese spectators, Zhuhai International Circuit began to build China's first civilian racing festival "Pan Delta Super Racing Festival", which broke new ground for the "grassroots" of Chinese motorsports. From then on, grassroot motorsports began to flourish in the whole country; this event also carries the mission of spreading the rich racing culture in the Pearl River Delta region to the whole of China.
The Pan Delta Super Racing Festival is held in March, June and September every year. There are three weekends of exciting events throughout the year, integrating formula racing, touring car racing, motorcycle racing and drift racing. Spectators can enjoy different types of cars racing around the track throughout the day.
At present, the Pan Delta Super Racing Festival mainly includes Circuit Hero (Super Car Race), Circuit Hero-One, Circuit Hero-Two, Circuit Hero-Three, Circuit Hero-Drift, Speed Hero and other competitions. Over the past 15 years, Pan Delta has attracted more than 5,000 drivers and 1 million spectators to the event. The Pan Delta Super Racing Festival has become the most influential brand event in the Chinese motorsports industry.
Managed by the Hong Kong Automobile Association, China Zhuhai Motorsport Organizing Committee organized the first ever street car race in Zhuhai. More than 100,000 people attended this very successful event.
With application by the FASC (Chinese NSA) to the FIA (FIA), Zhuhai was approved to hold the BPR Global GT Series race on its 4.1 km street circuit, the first international race event in China.
In 1995, ZIC organized the Shell International Motor Race in Zhuhai, China in November. The attendance doubled to about 200,000.
1997 Marlboro China International Race is held in November in Zhuhai. The races included: Ericsson Challenge, Elf Formula Campus International Race, Minolta South-East Asia Touring Car Zone Challenge, Marlboro GT endurance, Marlboro Mitsubishi Lancer Challenge, Valvoline Production Car Race, Lamborghini Race and the Asian Formula 2000 race. Chinese Championship races included Ericsson Subaru Cheetah WRX-RA Race, China Formula Campus Championship, 1600cc National Race, Group A 1600cc Endurance race and motorcycle race.
The 1998 Zhuhai International Racing Festival was held in November. Races included: Ericsson Mitsubishi Jacky Chan Foundation Charity Race, Formula Campus International Race, Mitsubishi Challenge Cup, Super Touring Car Race and Open Touring Car Race.
The FIA GT Championship is held in November. Races included the FIA GT Championship, Formula Campus International Race, F99 Spider Race, China Touring Car Race and Mitsubishi Lancer Challenge Race.
The successfully held Asian Festival of Speed on 7-8 October provided a good opportunity for Asian drivers to demonstrate their talents.
In September, the Asian Motorcycle Grand Prix, "Castrol FIM Asia Road Racing Championship" held its fourth round at ZIC.
On October 18-20, rounds 11 and 12 of Asian Festival of Speed was held at Zhuhai International Circuit. Races included the Asian Formula 2000, Asian Touring Car Championship (ATCC), Mini Race and Super Touring Car Race and Collectors Car Race. It was a feast to the eyes for the race fans.
On April 11-13, the Mei Yi Lok International Racing Festival combined motorsport with entertainment by providing luxury car show, rock show, food festival and fashion show, to give the thousands of fans and hundreds of drivers from around the world a great carnival atmosphere at the circuit.
After consolidating the various races, including the motorcycle, touring car and formula car races, ZIC launched the Pan Delta Super Racing Festival with four events from May to August.
2006 Pan Delta Super Racing Festival attracted its first title sponsor “Frestech”. 4 rounds of the Frestech Pan Delta Super Racing Festival was held during the year. Each round attracted over 20,000 spectators, making the races true motorsport festivals.
The Pan Delta Super Racing Festival retains Frestech as its title sponsor. Three events were held throughout the year and these attracted a lot of fans.
ZIC receives "Special Contribution" and "Best Organizer" Awards from National Sports Bureau Auto and Motor Sports Management Centre.
Audi took naming rights of Zhuhai International Circuit and also became title sponsor of Pan Delta Super Racing Festival.
Red Bull Drift Battle introduced in the Pan Delta Super Racing Festival. Drivers from China, Japan, Hong Kong, Italy and Macau gather to compete against each other, adding world class drifting excitement for the fans. It has become a regular competition of Pan Delta.
Shell Advance Asia Talent Cup joins Pan Delta Super Racing Festival. Organized by Dorna, the organization that also organizes MotoGP™ and WSBK, the new series aims to promote young Asian riding talent.
On 22 March 2015, Zhuhai Macau Cultural Exchange Press Conference is held at Zhuhai International Circuit. This signals a new era for motorsports between neighbouring cities Zhuhai and Macau. The two cities will embark on more co-operation in promoting motorsport culture, strengthening the Pearl River Delta area's motorsport industry.
On 17 September 2017, the signing ceremony between Australian MTrack Circuit Design Company and Zhuhai International Circuit Ltd for a Chinese area strategic partnership agreement was held at Zhuhai International Circuit.
On 16 September 2017, the Asia Road Racing Championship has signed a multi-year strategic cooperative relationship with the Zhuhai International Circuit as a means to harness the growing interest in motorsports in China.
